Our volunteers visit classrooms at local primary schools for single or multiple visits to inspire the next generation of scientists!
In this program, pairs of physicists visit local primary schools 4 times over the course of the school year, bringing along a different physics activity for each hour-long visit. Students get to know a physicist, while doing inquiry-based activities and experiments to explore various physics concepts like density, gravity, and momentum. These activities include:
At the end of this program, students have completed their "training" to become junior Space Explorers!
Science in Space: How to Telescope is an informal science learning program co-founded in 2022 by the Trottier Space Institute, McGill Physics, and Dell Technologies/Girls Who Game. The program is aimed at girls and students of marginalized genders in STEM between the ages of 10 and 14 (grades 5-8). Science in Space is designed to mitigate girls' attrition from STEM by fostering a sense of belonging and community, thus increasing student engagement and confidence in using STEM to tackle real-world problems. Over the course of 10 weeks,
students design and build telescopes in Minecraft with the guidance of graduate student mentors (who themselves identify as members of marginalized groups in STEM).

We have a number of prepared activities for your classroom! Our hands-on physics activities are developed with inquiry in mind. Click through the panels to learn more about the activities and modify them for use in your classroom.
